PHOTOSYNTHESIS PRODUCE STARCH
PHOTOSYNTHESIS PRODUCE STARCH
Objective : To know the result of
photosynthesis.
Plants are
autotrophic organism which they can produce their own food for energy through
photosynthesis. Photosynthesis needs Carbon dioxide and water to produce
glucose and as starch.
My activity is having
an experiment to maintain starch from plant.
-
Plant
leaves - 70% Alcohol
-
Carbon
paper or aluminum foil - Iodine/ lughole
-
Beaker
glass - Pinset/ forceps
-
Bunsen
burner - Filer paper
-
Pipette - Matches
-
Tube
holder - Water
-
A Petri
dish - A tree pot
The steps
are below:
1. I find a plant which has a green thin and
quite wide leaf in the garden.
2. I choose a leaf that it get sun rays
directly at day. But I do not pick the leaf.
3. I cover the middle part of the leaf with
the carbon paper or aluminum foil before sunrise, and I pick its leaf before
sunset.
4. I separation the leaf that covered by
carbon paper from the leaf uncovered carbon paper.
5. Then I heat/ cook the leaves in boiled
water for 5 minutes.
6. I pick up the leaves and put in the tube
that contains alcohol. Then I heat/ cook it in the water. I wait until the leaf
change to pale white.
7. Then I take the leaf, I clean from alcohol
with hot water and I put the leaf on the filter paper. I dry it out. I put the
leaf on a Petri dish and then drop the leaf with Iodine.
8. What will happened to the 1st leaf
that covered by carbon paper? What will happen with the uncovered leaf?
9. I write the result of activity into the
table below

ANALYSIS
1.
a. What is the purpose the leaves boiled in
water? To withered up of leaf cell.
b. What is the purpose the leaves boiled in alcohol? To solvent chlorophyll.
2.
What is the function of Iodine in this
experiment? To proof the content of
carbohydrate.
3.
Which part of the leaf that changes the color
into blue color when it dropped by Iodine? Uncovered
leaf.
4.
Which part of leaves that produce starch? Uncovered leaf. Because it gets sunlight to
do photosynthesis process, so it produces starch.
